"Happy First Day of Winter" - New Goals for a new season

Updated: Aug 1, 2022

Never give up on a dream

Just because of the time it will take to accomplish it.

The time will pass anyway... (Earl Nightingale)

"Happy first day of Winter" to everyone on my side of the world - or perhaps its "Happy first day of summer" where you live) And, as per tradition every winter, I'm donning the new beanie in support of the Mark Hughes Foundation to raise money for brain cancer. It's for such a worthwhile cause, and being a hat girl, it's also a great excuse to purchase a new beanie!

I literally have a whole drawer dedicated to beanies despite living in a sub tropical climate along with a large assortment of boots, and yes, I know, totally impractical, but we all have our weaknesses, and collecting hats and boots is clearly one of mine.

I was thrilled to learn I was the very first person to buy a beanie at my local Lowes store. If you would like to buy a beanie they're available to buy at Lowes stores in Australia or on line , and are great quality.

Today also happens to be the beginning of my new fitness journey. I finally found a new gym with amazing facilities and staff to help me reach my fitness goals once again. I have to admit I was a little nervous as it's been two years since I've set foot inside a gym since the pandemic, and had been laying low. But now just felt like the right time, and it was such a wonderful feeling to be back exercising with like-minded people - and real people at that! As much as online classes are great, I've truly missed the atmosphere of being inside an actual gym. This gym is so huge I actually got lost, and managed to lock myself out of my locker from typing my pin number in too quickly ( all the joys that come with being a newbie on the very first day) but I absolutely loved every minute, and managed to find my way back out again, after completing my workout, ha ha!

I'm not sure if I will ever get back to the same level of fitness I once had before being diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, but I am determined to reach the best level of fitness I can reach, with the body I now have, and will try hard to strike a level of balance and rest on the days I need to rest. I could go on and on about trying to find balance, but I think I'll save that blog for a whole other day !

So, my friends, here's to the magic a change in seasons can bring - it always feels to me, like the perfect time to reassess and set new goals and challenges, especially in winter when motivation can be a little harder to find. Does the change in seasons inspire you to set new goals too? If not, what does trigger a change? I know it can be all sorts of things for different people. But hey, why wait for a trigger - if you know something needs changing, or you've been meaning to set some new goals/challenges, why not start today? Too often we come up with excuses to give up on our goals and dreams as we're daunted by the time it may take to get there. But like the quote above says " Never give up on a dream because of the time it will take to accomplish it, as the time will pass anyway" And never let failure stop you from starting again.

I look forward to sharing the highs (and lows) of my journey with you along the way - and hopefully, come spring , I will be well and truly able to share with you some good results.

Until, then, enjoy the new change in seasons , whether it be winter or summer in your part of the world, and lets not forget to also stop and take the time to enjoy the best of what each season uniquely brings.

Warmest wishes,

Kim-Annette xx
